Description

What You Will Learn:

  • Basic Techniques: Throughout the day, you’ll be guided through step-by-step demonstrations and clear explanations of key techniques. To ensure an engaging and highly personalised learning experience, the workshop is limited to just 9 participants. The session will also be supported by my assistant, Clare Goodall, who will assist with the preparation and organisation of materials for both myself and the group, ensuring the day runs smoothly and allowing me to focus fully on teaching and demonstrations. This is an approach we use every year, and it consistently creates a relaxed, efficient, and highly supportive learning environment.
  • Use of natural Dyes and mordants: Gain experience using metal salts such as iron to enhance your print quality. Use natural dyes and dye/tannin carrier blankets to create beautiful background colours.
  • Practical Tips: Gain insights to remove guesswork and ensure consistent and beautiful results with your botanical printing.

Workshop Schedule: October 24/25th at the National Arboretum at Westonbirt, Saturday and Sunday 10-4pm

  • Saturday: Create a table runner using raw silk or cotton satin. In the afternoon, exploring dyes and tannins for use in carrier blankets on a silk velvet.
  • Sunday: Continue the projects with natural dyes to add beautiful coloured backgrounds and leaf prints on my signature dye gradient using discharge techniques in combination with an iron blanket.
  • Refine techniques, explore various printing approaches, and benefit from a show-and-tell session with workflow tips and tricks.

Participant Success: The images shown are examples of work created by previous participants, many of whom had no prior experience with botanical printing.
